Hackberry Emperor
Not all butterflies visit flowers. Adults of some, like this Hackberry Emperor (Asterocampa celtis), prefer to feed on dung, carrion, rotting fruit, or tree sap. As its name implies, larvae of this species feed on Hackberry (Celtis sp.).
